2012 NFL Draft Results: Montana CB Trumaine Johnson Selected By The St. Louis Rams With The 65th Pick

With the 65th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams selected Montana Grizzlies cornerback Trumaine Johnson. Johnson was the 98th-rated prospect in the draft and the No. 12 cornerback on the board, according to Mocking the Draft's rankings.

Johnson has his deficiencies coming from a small school, to be sure, but Dan Kadar from Mocking the Draft wrote earlier this month that Johnson’s quick feet and strong frame could make him a steal for those willing to risk the draft pick.

Strengths: Johnson has a safety frame playing cornerback. He’s not so big that his speed is negatively impacted, however. Johnson has quick feet to adjust on a dime and make a play on the ball. Opens his hips with ease to turn and run with the receiver.

Weaknesses: An unknown in regard to press coverage, though his size makes him intriguing in that area. Needs to play with better instincts, especially against shorter routes. Arrested in October while trying to break up a fight.

Johnson is the second cornerback picked by the Rams. Jeff Fisher’s team selected Janoris Jenkins with the 39th pick in the second round.

He also joins first rounder DT Michael Brockers and second rounders WR Brian Quick and RB Isaiah Pead.
