The 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft was a relatively quaint affair after a wild opening night. Teams traded a total of 10 times in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, but the buzz word for Round 2 was value. Players projected to go in the 1st round always slip as amateur and professional hobbyist draft boards meet with reality. Still, the sight of players like Cordy Glenn and Jonathan Martin being picked in the 2nd round was a little shocking.

Which picks were surprises and which ones already look like misses? SB Nation recaps the results from the 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Best Pick: Coby Fleener, TE, Colts -- I really like this pick, and Andrew Luck will too. He told us as much on Wednesday night, at the NFLPA rookie event, but the Stanford quarterback was not holding his breath, waiting for Fleener to fall. But fall he did, and with the addition of Dennis Allen, the rookie quarterback should have a couple solid targets to work with on day one.
Worst Pick: LaMichael James, RB, San Francisco -- Clearly Frank Gore is not going to be around forever, and the 49ers drafted a very good Kendall Hunter last year to account for that. I get the James pick from a depth, complementary perspective. Still, if they wanted speed, why not opt for Lamar Miller?
Most Surprising Pick: Ryan Broyles, WR, Detroit -- Broyles was on the radar late after showing progress from injuries that took him off it in his last year at Oklahoma. Most had him pegged as a 3rd round flyer pick, but Detroit gambled. He could be a very nice option in the slot for Matthew Stafford.
The Pick Other Teams Will Regret: Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Baltimore -- Once again, Ozzie Newsome has fleeced the rest of the league, stealing a talented player who should have gone in the 1st round. Coaches are too slavishly devoted to scheme fits -- as those schemes are an extension of their ego -- and Upshaw scared them away by his lack of simple definition.
Rich Get Richer Pick: Rueben Randle, WR, New York Giants -- I really thought Randle would be one of the first players off the board on Friday. Seeing him fall to the last pick of the 2nd round might have been the biggest shock of the whole day. With Eli Manning throwing him the ball, he could be a beast. The big man will be an asset as the Giants division rivals loaded up on corners this offseason.
'Who Is This Guy?' Pick: Derek Wolfe, DT, Denver - Denver had an obvious need at defensive tackle, but I would have assumed Jerel Worthy or Kendal Reyes was going to be the pick. Wolfe was a Kiper favorite in recent days.
