Albert Haynesworth Released By Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After only a few months in Tampa Bay, Albert Haynesworth has been released, the Bucs announced.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed DT Albert Haynesworth off waivers last November and just a few months later he's on his way out. The Bucs have announced that Haynesworth has been released, which shouldn't be a big surprise. Haynesworth was due nearly $7 million next season so there was no way the Bucs were paying that.

Haynesworth, 30, was originally the 15th overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2002 NFL draft. He became an All-Pro in 2007 and 2008, which helped him land a massive free agent contract with the Washington Redskins entering the 2009 season.

He failed to live up to expectations in Washington -- that’s putting it gently -- and played his last down for the Redskins in the middle of the 2010 season, before he was suspended for the rest of the season for conduct detrimental to the team.

The Redskins shipped him to the New England Patriots last summer for just a fifth round pick and he lasted only a few months in New England before the Patriots released him last November. He then signed with the Bucs where he made little impact in six games as a starter.

Haynesworth’s reputation will likely prevent him from any sizable guaranteed money in free agency, but defensive tackles are hard to come by so it’ll be interesting to see how much, if any interest he garners.
