Eric Wright Joins Bucs On 5-Year Deal

Free-agent cornerback Eric Wright has signed a five-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN's Rick Stroud. Wright was coming off a standout year with the Detroit Lions, who had signed him to a one-year deal at the start of 2011 after spending the first three years of his career with the Cleveland Browns. Wright tied a career high with four interceptions, started 16 games and made 72 tackles.

Wright will be expected to help improve what was one of the worst defenses in the league last year. The Bucs allowed 394.1 offensive yards per game, which ranked 30th out of 32 teams. They also gave up 30.9 points per game, which was the highest total in the league.

Among the Bucs’ problems on defense was an inability to create turnovers, something they did just 27 times. Wright’s four interceptions would have led the a Bucs team that had 14 among them.
