Peyton Manning To Broncos: ‘John Elway Got The Job Done’

Now that Peyton Manning has picked the Denver Broncos as his next team, there are more than a few disappointed fan bases out there. As a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I'm one of those disappointed fans.

But you obviously can’t say the same for Broncos fans. They went out and added a guy who might be the greatest free agent in NFL history. SB Nation’s Mile High Report is buzzing about the big addition calling it the greatest moment in Broncos history outside of their Super Bowl victories.

This might be the biggest moment in Denver Broncos history since the team won back-to-back Super Bowls in the late 1990s. Once again, John Elway worked his magic, seemingly bringing the Broncos from behind when all seemed lost. Like he did so many times as a player, Elway got the job done.

Elway just joined the Broncos last year as executive VP of football operations. He’s relatively new to running a front office in the NFL yet he beat out several seasoned front offices in his pursuit of Manning. That’s no small deal. It also likely creates a ripple effect in which other free agents may be more interested in playing for Denver now.

While there are certainly questions about Manning's health, it was a risk the Broncos had to take for several reasons. Only a name like Manning could lift the burden the franchise was beginning to feel with the constant Tebow-circus. The Broncos can now focus directly on free agency and a return to the glory of it's past. You could never bet against John Elway on the field, and quickly he is proving just a deadly in the front office.

Elway and the Broncos never seemed sold on Tim Tebow as the quarterback of the future but this is still a quarterback that helped lead them to the divisional round of the playoffs last year. Still, you can't turn down the possibility of adding a talent like Manning, even if Tebow won a playoff game last year.

Huge power shift in not only the AFC, but the entire NFL.
