Dan Koppen, Patriots Strike A Deal

The New England Patriots are bringing back center Dan Koppen, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Koppen, 32, ended the 2011 season on injured reserve for the Patriots. It's reported to be a two-year deal worth $6 million.

Talking with the Boston Herald earlier this month, Koppen sounded as if he was prepared to move on from the Patriots.

“I’ve been around this league a long time, I know it’s a business,” he went on. “I know the business, I know the business side of it. I’ve seen things that happen in the past and some things just work out and some things just don’t work out. I understand that the Patriots have gotta do what’s best for them and I gotta do what’s best for my family. So, in the next couple weeks, if decisions have to be made, then I’m gonna make my decisions based on what I feel is right for my family.”

Koppen originally joined the team as a fifth round pick in the 2003 NFL draft. He’s started at least 15 games in seven of his nine seasons.

The Patriots also re-signed center Dan Connolly, who replaced Koppen at the position last season. Koppen did draw some interest in free agency, visiting the Tennessee Titans.
