Drew Brees ‘Confident’ In Long-Term Deal With Saints

It's tough to tell where the Drew Brees' contract situation falls on the long list of headaches the New Orleans Saints have had to deal with this offseason. Regardless of what's going on behind close doors, Brees at least seems to be confident publicly that a deal will get done. The quarterback spoke with Boomer and Carton on WFAN in New York recently, and indicated that negotiations were progressing with the Saints organization.

“I think we’re closer today than we were a month ago,” Brees said. “Obviously there is still a lot to be done and a lot to be worked through. I’m still confident we can get a long term deal done and hopefully that happens sooner than later.”

Brees did not participate in any Saints offseason workouts as he continues his hold out for a long-term contract extension. In the interview, Brees reiterated that he would like to stay, and even raise his kids in New Orleans. If he isn’t signed by July 15, he will have to play the 2012 season under the one-year franchise tag or skip the season altogether.
