Saints Made New Offer To Drew Brees, According To Report

The New Orleans Saints continue to work toward a new contract for superstar quarterback Drew Brees. To date, the team and Brees have been unable to find a comfortable middle ground in their negotiations after the QB was given the franchise tag to prevent him hitting the free agent market in March.

The Associated Press reports that the Saints have made a new offer to Brees, according to an anonymous source close to the situation.

The person spoke to The Associated Press Thursday on condition of anonymity because the team and the quarterback have not publicly discussed the new offer. The person did not provide details about financial changes in the new offer, but added, “as always, there is a lot to get through and no deal is imminent.”

Brees has interest in returning to New Orleans but has been unimpressed with the initial contract offers by the Saints. Brees held out of OTAs and this week’s minicamp while waiting to work out a new deal. If he is able to come to an agreement with the team over the weekend, he could potentially make the last week of Saints voluntary practices next week.
