Super Bowl 2012: Turnovers Are Critical For New York Giants

The New York Giants' surprising run to the 2012 Super Bowl — which has featured the Giants rebounding from falling to 7-7 in Week 15 of the 2011 NFL regular season and ripping off five straight wins — has been led by Eli Manning and a rugged defense.

But as SB Nation’s Giants blog Big Blue View points out, New York has also benefited from a span of superior ball security in which turnovers have been vanishingly rare.

Despite the wet and windy weather, the Giants did not have a turnover. It was the seventh consecutive game in which they did not lose a fumble, their longest such streak since 2008. The Giants did not commit a turnover in three of their last four games, including the regular season finale vs. Dallas. They have won their last eight games (regular season and postseason) in which they did not turn the ball over.

The Giants have committed just two turnovers in their five-game winning streak, with Manning throwing interceptions against the New York Jets in Week 16 of the regular season and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
