Super Bowl Betting And Other Odds On The Giants And Patriots

Super Bowl XLVI, featuring the rematch between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants, is under two weeks away. As recently as a couple of months ago, not many would have predicted this would be the Super Bowl matchup.

Pregame.com took the time to crunch some numbers on various odds throughout the regular season and the postseason concerning the two teams. Here are the interesting tidbits that they came up with:

- Two other teams would be heavy favorites over New York on a neutral field: the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints.

- According to Las Vegas odds, entering the last two weeks of the regular season, the Giants only had a 28 percent chance of making it to the playoffs.

- The Giants ended up needing five straight wins to make it to the Super Bowl. Had a bettor placed $100 on that first game and let the winnings ride, the payout would have been over $5,400. (54 to 1 odds against.)

- The Patriots were favorites in 17 of the 18 games in which they played this season, with the only exception being their road game against the New York Jets.

- Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have taken the Patriots to four different Super Bowls prior to this year's and in each one the underdog has covered the spread. The winner won by three points in all four appearances. This, perhaps, is bad news for the Patriots, as they are the current three-point favorites.

- Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is currently dealing with an ankle injury, although he and the team insist it will not be an issue in the Super Bowl. Bookmakers currently say that Gronkowski is worth no more than a half-point in Super Bowl XLVI.
