Super Bowl 2012: Patriots’ Stevan Ridley Should Be Active

Stevan Ridley isn't the most important option in the New England Patriots offense, but the running back has been known to offer a nice change of pace for Bill Belichick in the backfield. It's good news for the Patriots offense, then, that Ridley expects to play against the New York Giants in Super Bowl 46.

Ridley, a rookie out of LSU, started two of the 15 games he played in for the Patriots this season on his way to a solid 5.1 yards per carry. He’s an effective kick returner, too, but his propensity to fumble had him removed from those duties.

Regardless of his previous problems, Ridley expects to be active on Sunday according to his comments to CSN New England.

“Coach really didn’t say much (before the AFC Championship game),” Ridley said at Media Day inside Lucas Oil Stadium on Tuesday. “That’s just kind of how coach Bill works. He’s not really gonna explain anything. He’s just going to make his coaching moves and we just have to kind of follow suit. For us we just have to go out there and do what he tells us to do.”

[...]

“This game I’m gonna be dressed and out on the field,” Ridley said, “so hopefully I’ll get some carries.”

Ridley’s comments don’t sound all that promising as far as him having a significant role, but at least he’ll be another option if the coaching staff decides to throw an extra wrinkle in the game plan.
