Georgia TE Orson Charles enters NFL Draft

Sources tell Mark Schlabach of ESPN that Georgia tight end Orson Charles will forgo his senior season and enter the 2012 NFL Draft.

Charles is the first Bulldogs player to enter the draft early this year after quarterback Aaron Murray, linebacker Jarvis Jones and defensive tackle John Jenkins all said they would return for another season. Georgia is now waiting on decisions from safety Baccari Rambo and linebacker Cornelius Washington. Sources told ESPN.com Rambo and Washington are expected to return for their senior seasons.

Charles was a Mackey Award finalist this season after finishing with 45 receptions for 574 yards and five touchdowns. At 6-foot-3, 241 pounds, Charles doesn’t have great size but he’s a good blocker for the position. He’s also flashed good hands and solid athleticism in the open field.

Expect Charles to be drafted in the late second or early third-round area. His best spot will be on a team that uses him in the slot.
