Chicago Police Expect To Talk To Starlin Castro This Week

ESPN Chicago reports that Chicago police expect to interview Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro when he’s in town this week for the Cubs Convention, which begins Friday at the Chicago Hilton, regarding sexual assault allegations that were made by a Chicago woman last September.

Cubs executive Theo Epstein had… not much to say on the topic:

“I don’t think it’s the right time or forum to talk about that,” Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said Wednesday at a kickoff luncheon for the convention. “As facts develop and the story evolves, there will be an appropriate time to talk about that.”No charges have been filed in this matter as of yet. At the same luncheon, new Cubs manager Dale Sveum was asked about what it means to be a public figure such as a professional athlete:

“The one thing is that these are grown men,” he said. “I’ve raised my children, and sometimes you do have to treat players like they are your children. As for sometimes guys get misled and they don’t know to handle the off-field activities, so to speak, especially when you’re in a big city like Chicago.
“But you do a lot of talking, and you treat them like your family, so the communication helps out. The bottom line is they are grown men, so they have to grow up on their own sometimes, too.”For more on the Cubs and Castro, please visit our SB Nation Cubs blog, Bleed Cubbie Blue.
