Canadian free-style skier Sarah Burke has died after spending nine days in a coma following an accident during a training run, according to Salt Lake City TV station ABC4. Burke suffered the injury on Jan. 10 while preparing for a superpipe event at Park City Mountain Resort.

The day after suffering her injury, Burke underwent neurosurgery in an attempt to repair a tear in one of the four main arteries in her brain.
The 29-year-old had won a FIS Freestyle World Ski Championship in 2005 and had won four X-Games gold medals in the superpipe. She was married to fellow freestyle skier Rory Bushfield. She was considered one of the best female park skiers of all time and became the first skier to win an ESPY in 2007. Among her accomplishments were becoming the first female skier to land a 720, 900 and 1080 in competition and was the first woman to attempt a 1260 in a competition.
