Despite being a backup this season, Joe Schad of ESPN reports that North Carolina junior defensive end Donte Paige-Moss will enter the 2012 NFL Draft. Schad also reports that Paige-Moss will have ACL surgery this week.
Donte Paige-Moss flames out at UNC, enters 2012 NFL Draft
It’s a flame out an end to Paige-Moss’s controversial career with the Tar Heels. After a Twitter ban was lifted on North Carolina players, Paige-Moss went on a rant against his coaches and UNC fans. His greatest hits after the team’s bowl game loss:
Worst xmas eva cant wait till.this horrible bowl in this horrible city wit sum of da mos horrible coaches r ova
Sum.of.yall mofos jus haten cuz yall.gotta pay.fo.skool
unc. Fans r.the.worse.we.win its all.good. Have a bad game we suck thats.a.reason #imout #nosupport
That’s not all for Paige-Moss. As the Herald Sun notes, he has a misdemeanor assault on his record after punching fellow a North Carolina commit in the face before his freshman season.
Paige-Moss should get drafted, but he’s going to have to wait a long time to hear his name called. He has virtually no junior tape after registering just two sacks this season and likely won’t be able to workout following knee surgery. He has to rely on a breakout sophomore season where he had 77 tackles and 7 sacks and the constant need for pass rush help in the NFL to get him draft. It wouldn’t be a surprise, though, if several NFL teams kept him completely off their draft boards.
