Stanford vs. Oklahoma State; Fiesta Bowl NFL Draft watch notes

We have run out of superlatives. The hype is coming to an end. Andrew Luck is set to play his final game at Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl and then it'll be time for the promise to become reality.

By now you know Luck is going to be the No. 1 pick in this year's NFL Draft and that the Indianapolis Colts currently hold the pick. You know that Luck is a big, strong, athletic quarterback whose best strength is his football IQ.

Coming into tonight's game, we also know that Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon is considered by many to be the best wide receiver in the draft. And that he's going pro after the game.

We also know this game is rife with prospects. Stanford offensive linemen Jonathan Martin and David DeCastro are first-round picks. Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden and offensive tackle Levy Adcock are probable second-round picks.

We know all this, man. So why watch? Because we'll get to see Oklahoma State safety Markelle Martin cover the bevy of Stanford tight ends led by Coby Fleener. We'll get to watch as Stanford linebacker Chase Thomas continues his ascent up NFL Draft boards.

2013 NFL Draft watch: As good as Fleener is, he may not be the best tight end on his team. That could be junior Zach Ertz. When he plays, the Stanford offense is better. When he was out, it was when Luck struggled. It's no coincidence. Ertz is hard to cover and faster than most 6-foot-6, 249-pound receivers.
