No. 2 Kentucky Vs. Alabama: Wildcats Hold On At Home To Stay Undefeated In SEC

Led by Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb, Kentucky hit their free throws down the stretch to hold on for a six-point win over the Crimson Tide.

The Kentucky Wildcats improved to 5-0 in the SEC with a hard-fought 77-71 win over Alabama at Rupp Arena. The Crimson Tide were looking to bounce back from a woeful performance against Vanderbilt, and they pushed the No. 2 team in the country to the limit in the second half. But the Wildcats would hit their free throws over the final minute to ice the game and hold on for the six-point win.

Kentucky spread the wealth around, with six players scoring in double figures. Sophomores Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb led Kentucky, with Jones scoring a team-high 15 points on just seven shots. Lamb gave the Wildcats a big boost off the bench, hitting two quick threes and chipping in 14 points. Freshman sensation Michael Kidd-Gilchrist fouled out, but not before scoring 13 and grabbing six boards. On the defensive end, Anthony Davis, the nation's leader in blocks, had four rejections including one that sealed the win with less than five seconds remaining.

The Crimson Tide hit five of seven attempts from behind the arc to keep it close throughout. Against Kentucky's young and imposing front line, JaMychal Green was a beast on the interior for Alabama, pouring in 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. But the the Wildcats steady shooting from the free-throw line would hold off Green and the Tide, who fell to 13-6 and 2-3 in conference.
