Back in 1976, people - especially Oakland A’s owner Charles O. Finley - thought baseball salaries were really getting out of hand as evidenced by this Vida Blue cover of Newsweek. One can only imagine how they would have reacted if a time traveler had presented them with a copy of Prince Fielder’s terms.

In the interests of full disclosure, the image used in conjunction with this piece is not of the same copy of Newsweek that is for sale in the listing. Blue was making over $100,000 for the first time that season.
