Peyton Manning is a future Hall of Fame quarterback and in a very small group of players in the running for best all time. If he's healthy, acquiring Manning, even at 35 years old, makes sense for a lot of teams. So, it should come as little surprise to see the Washington Post is reporting that a "person with knowledge of the situation" has said the Washington Redskins would be lining up as a place for Manning to play, with all the predictable caveats:

"No. 1, is he going to be released? No. 2, is he going to be healthy? No. 3, at the end of the day, is he willing to come back and play in the NFL. We don’t know those questions," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "I think everybody would want Peyton Manning, if he was healthy. You’d be crazy not to want Peyton Manning if he was healthy. Nobody knows now if he’s going to be cleared to play. And if he is cleared to play, wouldn’t the Colts either want him, or [pick up his option] and then try to trade him?"
Manning in Washington would certainly be interesting. Mike Shanahan worked wonders with John Elway, and coincidentally, Elway was 35 when Shanahan was hired by the Broncos. The two of them, of course, went on to win two Super Bowls together.
Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan added further fuel to the rumors last week when he said this on ESPN980 last Friday (via SBNation DC):
“I know he’s up there in age, but if he’s healthy, age is not an issue,” said Shanahan. “That guy takes care of his body..his arm’s not leaving. He can take the hits. You just hope his neck’s alright, and he’ll be Peyton Manning.”
