Joe Torre Resigns From MLB To Explore Dodgers Purchase

Former All-Star and future Hall-of-Fame manager Joe Torre retired from managing after leading the Dodgers to a an 80-82 record in 2010. According to a report from Major League Baseball, he might be interested in owning them:

NEWS: Joe Torre has resigned as @MLB EVP/Baseball Ops to explore opportunities w/ group that will pursue ownership of @DodgersTorre was previously Major League Baseball’s Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, which was informally known as the “Discipline Czar.” When pitchers would plunk hitters intentionally, and when players would rat-tail reporters with wet towels, Torre would be there to determine the length and severity of punishment.

Last month, the New York Times quoted Torre as saying that he was somewhat interested in pursuing a role with a potential ownership group:

“I’m not part of any group,” he said by telephone Tuesday afternoon. “But I’ll tell you there’ve been a number of people who’ve reached out and inquired, but I’ve made no alliance, no commitment, as of this minute.“And, look, I don’t want to start a rumor about the Dodgers moving or anything, but Torre was born and raised in Brooklyn...
