Starlin Castro’s Attorneys Respond To Sexual Assault Allegations

Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has been accused of sexual assault, according to a CBS Chicago report earlier Friday, and posted earlier here at Baseball Nation.

At Hardball Talk, Craig Calcaterra quotes two attorneys for Castro, Jay K. Reisinger and Michael P. Gillespie, who issued the following statement about the allegations:

We are aware of certain allegations that have been made against our client, Starlin Castro. We have thoroughly investigated this matter, and we are confident that these allegations are baseless. Given the sensitive nature of this matter, we cannot comment any further. As always, we await further developments in this matter; at this time, neither the Cubs nor the Chicago police have made any comment. According to the Cubs website, Castro is among players scheduled to attend the Cubs Convention, which begins in Chicago next Friday, Jan. 13.

Presumably, Castro and his attorneys will address these allegations before the convention begins a week from today.
