This Week In GIFs results: Tommy Hunter scores decisive victory

In Week 19 of This Week In GIFs, Tommy Hunter’s still-life home run celebration took 33 percent of the vote to secure the win.

There was a lot to love in Week 19 of THIS WEEK IN GIFs. Baseball was as silly as is always is, South Carolina’s Ace Sanders ripped off one of the most impressive punt returns in recent memory, and we gave one last look to the brilliant ineptitude of the NFL’s replacement officials. But the winner, with 566 total votes (33 percent), is ...

... TOMMY HUNTER.

As I noted on Friday, it took me a minute to figure out whether or not this was a “real” GIF -- in other words, one that hadn’t been doctored. It isn’t, of course. It’s just that Hunter’s timeliness and utter stillness just seems a little too perfect. Then again, the Orioles presently have a 92-67 record despite a run differential of only +11. There are many things I do not understand about the Orioles.

Here’s what y’all had to say in the comments:

my question is how long did he hold that pose before the camera got there? did he put his hands up right after the swing? right before? 5 min before? he may be the Nostrodamus of our time

Tommy Hunter

Is the pink-faced orc from Return of the King. Just standing there not moving while shit rains down around him and everybody else freaks out.

- Valued Internet subscriber WastelandHound

did this just to be made into a GIF, like he saw the Majerle GIF and wanted one of himself. I can’t reward that type of behavior.

- Valued Internet subscriber Raiders on the Storm

If anyone were to ask me, I would suggest that Hunter does indeed fall short of the legendary Dan Majerle GIF here, but that it’s a completely deserving winner.

Thanks for another fun week, everyone. Tune in Friday, when we’ll be voting on Week 20. To check out the rest of the THIS WEEK IN GIFs archives, click here.
