Kansas student reporter, Charlie Weis still at odds?

Charlie Weis hasn’t exactly generated a lot of goodwill in his first few months in Lawrence.

With the Jayhawks struggling through a 1-4 start to the season, people in Lawrence are getting a taste of Charlie Weis’ rather unique way of dealing with people.

According to an article in the Daily Kansan, director of football communications Katy Lonergan had a meeting with student reporter Blake Schuster before the team’s weekly press conference where she’s perceived to have discouraged Schuster from asking questions.

Lonergan characterized it as merely informing the reporter of the ill will generated by a Daily Kansas editorial picture mocking the team’s ineptness earlier in the week. She said she wanted him to be prepared for backlash from members of the team if he asked any questions, but Weis was the only person scheduled to speak at the press conference.

Over the years, Weis certainly hasn’t been afraid to voice his displeasure at reporters for perceived negative commentary.

The only good news for the coach? Basketball season starts soon in Lawrence.
