The Arizona Diamondbacks have talked with ESPN's Steve Berthiaume regarding the team's play-by-play announcer vacancy, reports Paola Boivin of The Arizona Republic.

Currently an anchor for ESPN’s MLB show Baseball Tonight, Berthiaume also writes for the company’s SweetSpot blog. He worked at ESPN from 1999-2006 as an ESPNEWS anchor and also appeared on SportsCenter. Berthiaume left for a brief stint with SportsNet New York as an anchor, before returning to ESPN in 2007.

The Diamondbacks are on the hunt for an announcing team after they released former player Mark Grace following his second DUI arrest in a 15-month span. They also moved on from play-by-play man Daron Sutton over what team executive Derrick Hall called “philosophical differences.”

Sutton is still under contract after signing a four-year extension in 2011, but Hall told The Arizona Republic he would work with Sutton on a buyout.

Chicago White Sox analyst Steve Stone was a name that came up after the formal announcement of Arizona looking for new hires came out. Another name was Chicago Cubs announcer Bob Brenly, who won the 2001 World Series as the manager of the Diamondbacks.
