Texas Rangers reliever Mike Adams is set to have surgery on Thursday for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, the condition that forced Adams to be sidelined for the final week of the regular season. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome involves pain in the neck and shoulder, numbness and tingling of the fingers and also can cause a weak grip.

Adams had a solid year, with an 3.27 ERA in 61 games, a 5-3 record and 45 strikeouts. He also was good at limiting home runs, with just one allowed in his first 60 appearances. But in his final appearance of the season he allowed three home runs. It was found out three days later that Adams had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.

The timetable for recovery from this surgery varies anywhere from four weeks to six months, depending on the severity of the injury. Adams can become a free agent this off season, and depending on his recovery it is possible that he may not be ready in time for spring training.
