One minute, you're getting ready for a playoff game, and the next minute Keith Olbermann is breaking rumors about the Marlins trading for Alex Rodriguez. Okay.
Olbermann: Yankees, Marlins could work out A-Rod swap

This isn't coming from Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman, or Buster Olney. This is coming from Keith Olbermann, who used to be a SportsCenter anchor 15 years ago, and he has a blog on MLB.com, so, I don't know, I guess he knows people in high places. And in Olbermann's blog, he suggests that the Marlins are interested in A-Rod with the Yankees assuming almost his entire salary.
Sources close to both organizations confirm the Yankees would pay all – or virtually all – of the $114,000,000 Rodriguez is owed in a contract that runs through the rest of this season and the next five. One alternative scenario has also been discussed in which the Yankees would pay less of Rodriguez’s salary, but would obtain the troubled Marlins’ reliever Heath Bell and pay what remains of the three-year, $27,000,000 deal Bell signed last winter.
Oh. Let’s see ... “control-F” ... search for “no-trade clause” ... huh ... nothing about a no-trade clause in the article, even though Rodriguez has full no-trade protection. Seems legit. Then the report devolves in to something with a bunch of Donald Trump tweets, and ... yeah, I have no idea.
After the Red Sox traded an injured Carl Crawford, I guess I wouldn't be surprised at any deal now. And Rodriguez is from Miami and lives there in the offseason, plus he hates New York, which is why he fails on purpose, so it's not necessarily unlikely that he'd waive the no-trade protection.
Considering that it’s an unlikely source and an unlikely rumor at an unlikely time, it’s probably just best to point and laugh for now. But I guess the Yankees are sick of him, and the Marlins are kind of crazy and erratic.
In the meantime, the Yankees will have to deal with Alex Rodriguez, platoon player and last man off the bench until the offseason. And if they’re willing to eat $114 million -- $114 million! -- I’ll bet there are a lot of teams who would want Rodriguez. Apparently the Marlins are atop the list.
