R.A. Dickey pitched the majority of the season with a torn lower abdominal muscle, and the Mets knuckleballer underwent successful surgery in Philadelphia on Thursday. Following the procedure, the righty sent out a tweet to his Twitter followers updating them on his recovery.

Dickey is expected to fully recover by spring training, and he will be entering the second year of his two-year, $7.8 million extension signed in 2010, though the Mets are believed to be interested in retaining the 38-year-old’s services beyond the 2013 season.
The 2012 season was a career year for Dickey, who became the first knuckleballer to win 20 games. He also led the league in strikeouts, whiffing 230 batters in 233⅔ innings, and he’s a leading candidate for the National League Cy Young Award.
