Tampa Bay Rays righty James Shields threw a complete game in spectacular fashion, yet it wasn't enough: he carried his 10th loss of the year, this time falling against the Baltimore Orioles, 1-0, Tuesday night at Tropicana Field.

Shields set a new franchise record for strikeouts in a single game with 15, while granting just two hits, and the only run of the night, via a solo homer by outfielder Chris Davis in the fourth inning.

It was the 33rd blast this season by Davis, who also tied an Orioles record by homering in his sixth consecutive game. That streak was set for Baltimore by Reggie Jackson from July 18-23, 1976. The current Major League record is eight, shared by several players.

Tampa Bay was only able to record two hits in the game as well: singles by Evan Longoria and Chris Gimenez in the second and eighth innings, respectively.

Miguel Gonzalez had his ninth win of the season after allowing two hits, two walks and fanning seven in 6⅓ innings, while Jim Johnson had his 51st save in 54 opportunities, tossing a full inning granting only a walk.

The Orioles have a 74-0 record in games they led after 7 innings this season.
