J.W. Walsh injury: Oklahoma State QB out for season

Oklahoma State quarterback J.W. Walsh will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Richard Rowe-US PRESSWIRE

Oklahoma State quarterback J.W. Walsh suffered a knee injury early in the Cowboys' 31-10 victory over Iowa State Saturday, but the freshman continued to play. Head coach Mike Gundy announced Sunday that Walsh will miss the rest of the season.

Walsh’s injury is a blow to a Cowboys offense that has put up impressive numbers in 2012. Oklahoma State ranks second in the Big 12 in points per game (45.7) and leads the conference in total offense, averaging an astounding 605.3 yards per game.

Walsh completed 32 of 47 passes for 415 yards and a touchdown against Iowa State. He ranks fifth in the Big 12 in yards per game this season, averaging 244.5. Walsh has completed 66 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and three interceptions this year, and his quarterback rating is 163.78.

Walsh would be replaced by Wes Lunt, who started at quarterback for the Cowboys before being injured in Week 3, but Lunt himself has yet to be cleared to play. Lunt completed 51 of 75 passes for 588 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions this season.
