Tigers vs. Giants, 2012 World Series Game 1: Game time, TV schedule, lineups and more
Justin Verlander and Barry Zito will meet in Game 1 of the 2012 World Series between the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.
After dispatching of the New York Yankees, the Tigers were forced to wait some time for the Giants and St. Louis Cardinals to battle it out in a seven-game series in the NLCS.
The Giants will rely on Barry Zito Wednesday night: the lefty was 15-8 with a 4-15 ERA, pitching efficiently after several years of uncertainty. He allowed two runs off four hits in 2⅔ innings in Game 4 of the NLDS, and got the win in Game 5 of the NLCS after tossing 7⅔ shutout innings while allowing six hits, with a total of 10 strikeouts in both stints. This will be Zito's first appearance in the World Series.
Justin Verlander, the Tigers' ace, starts after a solid performance thus far this postseason: he's 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA and 25 strikeouts. He was 17-8 with a 2.64 ERA during the regular season, leading MLB with 239 strikeouts.
