Tigers vs. Giants, 2012 World Series Game 2: Game time, TV schedule, starting pitchers and more

The San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers meet for Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday at 8 p.m. on FOX.

Doug Pensinger

Detroit Tigers at San Francisco Giants World Series Game 2

Thursday Oct 25, at 8:00 p.m. EDT on FOX

Probable pitchers: Doug Fister vs. Madison Bumgarner

Game 1 could not have gone more perfectly for the Giants. Barry Zito threw more than five innings and gave up only one run. Tim Lincecum pitched like a multiple Cy Young Award winner. The offense was able to prove that Justin Verlander is, in fact, mortal. Oh yes, and Pablo Sandoval hit a few home runs. But as perfect as the game was for the Giants, it still only counts as one win in the best-of-seven series.

Game 2 features another seemingly lopsided pitching matchup in favor of the Tigers. Doug Fister has thrown 13⅓ innings so far in the 2012 post-season and has only surrendered two runs. On the other hand, Madison Bumgarner has thrown eight innings across two starts and given up 10 runs. He was replaced in the Giants’ rotation in the NLCS by Tim Lincecum, but manager Bruce Bochy chose to go back to his 23-year-old lefty for the second game of the World Series. The Tigers’ offense performed significantly worse against left-handed pitching this season, OPSing 41 points lower against them than against right-handers.

FOX’s Joe Buck will call the play-by-play, with long-time partner Tim McCarver providing the color commentary. FOX’s coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET with the pre-game show, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:00.
