White Sox promote Kenny Williams, rearrange front office

The Chicago White Sox are set to end Williams’ 13-year run as GM by promoting him to head of baseball operations.

The Chicago White Sox are set to shake up their front office on Friday. Current general manager Kenny Williams will be promoted to head of baseball operations while Rick Hahn will be named GM.

Williams will end his 13-year reign as one of baseball's longest-tenured GMs, but he will remain the club's senior vice president. In 2005, Williams brought Chicago its first world championship since 1917. The White Sox last won an AL Central title in 2008; the club made a strong run in 2012, but a late-season collapse allowed the Tigers to surge to the division crown.

Hahn, who has been a GM candidate for multiple teams in the last half-decade, has been with the White Sox since 2000. Hahn has been involved in contract negotiations and arbitration settlements, though he recently took a more active role in scouting. He will have some decisions to make quickly, including whether Chicago will allow Jake Peavy, A.J. Pierzynski, and Kevin Youkilis to leave for free agency.
