Florida, Georgia are already going at it

Shoving match before even taking the field? Must be the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Rob Foldy-US PRESSWIRE

There’s nothing quite like the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, or whatever we’re calling Florida-Georgia now. Two teams that just absolutely hate each other playing in Jacksonville in front of a rabid crowd makes for some good times. And when the pushing and shoving is already getting underway before the teams even take the field, you know we’re in for a fun day.

I mean, they hadn’t even tossed the coin yet. Florida and Georgia were getting after it before any of the normal pregame stuff. We’re this close to the bands going at it at halftime, which would actually be pretty neat.

As for the game itself, Damian Swann recovered a Jeff Driskel fumble on the Gators first drive and Georgia took advantage. Three plays later, Todd Gurley found space, bounding into the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown. And to add a little insult to injury, Gurley promptly did the Gator Chomp, throwing a little more fuel on the fire.

Midway through the first quarter, the Bulldogs are on top 7-0 and the tensions remain high on the field. Next time, maybe make sure the two teams have ample space between them entering and leaving the field. Or you know what, don’t. Rivalries are fun.
