Miguel Cabrera and Buster Posey took home the Hank Aaron Award in their respective leagues, prior to Game 3 of the World Series. The award is given to the outstanding offensive performer in each league. It was the first time the winners were both participants in the World Series.

Cabrera won the American League Triple Crown with a .330 average, 44 home runs and 139 RBI. It was the first time since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 that anyone accomplished the feat. He also led the league in total bases (377), extra-base hits (84) and slugging percentage (.606).

Posey led the majors with a .336 batting average. He also hit 24 home runs, totaled 103 RBI, had a .408 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .549. Posey played in just 45 games last year after a home plate collision ended his season on May 25.

The award was voted for by fans on MLB.com and a panel of Aaron, Tony Gwynn, Paul Molitor, Joe Morgan and Robin Yount. All five are members of the Hall of Fame. The award was established in 1999 to honor the 25th anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record.

Last year's winners were Jose Bautista and Matt Kemp.
