New York Jets will stay with Mark Sanchez over Tim Tebow

Mark Sanchez will stay the starter for the New York Jets, despite many saying that the team should bench the fourth-year quarterback in favor of Tim Tebow.

Mark Sanchez will remain the New York Jets' starting quarterback despite calls for Rex Ryan to replace him with Tim Tebow.

Sanchez's performance against the Miami Dolphins wasn't the worst of his season, but it was clear his quarterbacking wasn't moving the ball for New York. The fourth-year quarterback only completed 28 of 54 passes for a low 5.2 yards per attempt, tossing a touchdown and a pick and fumbling once. After the game, Ryan said that he would consider changes on his depth chart at every position besides quarterback, insisting that Sanchez "looked pretty good" and is the person who gives the team the best chance to win. From the New York Daily News:

“Offensively, the problems aren’t one man,” Ryan said Monday. “If it was one man, that would be easy to do. But it’s not on one person. Sometimes, we’re accurate with the football (and) we drop some passes. Sometimes, the pass might not have been as accurate as we wanted it to be. Then there’s times when our protection let us down.”

Tebow has barely gotten a chance to play for New York despite his high-profile offseason acquisition and famous heroics for the Denver Broncos in his first two years in the league. While Sanchez threw 54 passes Sunday, Tebow has only played 54 offensive snaps the entire season, mainly running the ball while attempting three passes. Ryan has used the backup quarterback in a variety of roles, with Tebow making several contributions on special teams.
