Still 3 huge games; schedules, TV, pitchers

There’s one day left in the regular season. Three American League games Wednesday will determine division titlists and playoff seeding. Here’s your guide to all the action.

We have reached the end of the 2012 regular season, and while all the postseason spots are now wrapped up, there are still division titles to be won, and seeding to be determined, in the American League.

Three A.L. games Wednesday will determine those things -- with the possibility that there could still be a tiebreaker Thursday.

Rangers at Athletics, 3:35 p.m. ET: Ryan Dempster, acquired in a deadline deal from the Cubs, will start for the Rangers; rookie A.J. Griffin will go for Oakland. Dempster, who has faced the A's just once in his career, posted a 4.59 ERA in six September starts; Griffin threw six shutout innings against the Rangers in Texas in his second major-league start. The winner of this game is A.L. West champion; the loser heads to the wild-card play-in game. The game will be carried nationally via MLB Network.

Red Sox at Yankees, 7 p.m. ET: The teams' Japanese imports, Daisuke Matsuzaka for Boston and Hiroki Kuroda for New York, will match up in a game that will be seen on ESPN. Kuroda's had a very good first Yankee season; Dice-K has been... bad. If the Yankees win, they are A.L. East champions. If they lose...

Orioles at Rays, 7 p.m. ET: Chris Tillman faces Jeremy Hellickson in a contest that you can watch on ESPN2. The Orioles must win and have the Yankees lose to force an A.L. East tiebreaker that would be played Thursday in Baltimore. Any other New York/Baltimore combination of wins and losses sends the Orioles to the play-in game.
