The Philadelphia Phillies wasted no time announcing that they will not be renewing the contracts of three of their coaches following their season-ending, 5-1 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon. After the game the team announced they will not renew the contracts of hitting coach Greg Gross, bench coach Pete Mackanin and first base coach Sam Perlozzo.

Mackanin, 61, and Perlozzo, 61, were both brought on in 2009 and have prior experience as managers. Gross, 60, has been with the Phillies organization since 2001 and has been the hitting coach of the Phillies since midway through the 2010 season. Mackanin and Gross both spent time with Philadelphia during their playing careers.

The Phillies ended their 2012 campaign with an 81-81 record, their worst performance since the 2002 season, when they finished 80-81. Their .500 record ended a streak of nine-straight winning seasons. Prior to 2012, Philadelphia had made five consecutive postseason appearances.
