The Ohio Bobcats and the Toledo Rockets were selected to win their respective Mid-American Conference divisions in men's basketball, as the league released its preseason poll on Tuesday. The Bobcats were selected to win the MAC East as well as the league's conference tournament, while Toledo was tabbed to be MAC West champions.
Ohio, Toledo picked as preseason MAC favorites
The Ohio Bobcats men’s basketball team was picked to win the MAC East this season, while the Toledo Rockets were tabbed to win the West.


Each team placed two players on the preseason All-MAC squads. Ohio seniors D.J. Cooper and Walter Offutt were selected to make the East Division All-MAC team, as well as Akron center Zeke Marshall, Bowling Green forward A`uston Calhoun and Buffalo forward Javon McCrea. Toledo players Rian Pearson and Julius Brown gained enough votes to make the preseason West All-MAC squad, with Ball State guard Jesse Berry, Northern Illinois forward Abdel Nader and Western Michigan forward Nate Hutcheson joining them.
The Bobcats had some success in the NCAA Tournament last season, advancing to the Sweet 16 before falling to North Carolina. Ohio received 18 votes to return to win the First Energy MAC Men's Basketball Tournament, with the Akron Zips picking up six votes to win the tournament.
