Report: Mets exercise options on Wright, Dickey

The Mets are still discussing long-term deals with their star third baseman and knuckleballer, but they’ve made sure they’ll both be around in 2013.

The New York Mets exercised their 2013 options on David Wright and R.A. Dickey, according to a report by Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The moves were expected, as both players have been substantial contributors to the Mets over the last several seasons.

The team and both players are still discussing about long-term deals. Wright’s option is worth $16 million and Dickey’s is worth $5 million, which could increase based on various award bonuses.

Dickey has reasons to think he has several bonuses in the bag: his 20-6 record and 2.73 ERA certainly makes him one of the leading candidates for this year’s Cy Young award. Wright’s career was revitalized in 2012 after batting .306, with 178 hits in 581 at-bats, with 93 RBI, 21 home runs and 41 doubles, in one of his best performances in several years. Both players made the 2012 All-Star Game roster for the National League.
