Giants fans celebrate with World Series parade

The city of San Francisco welcomed their World Series champion Giants with the traditional ticker-tape parade on Wednesday.

San Francisco filled the streets with orange and black today, but only partly because of Halloween. The city threw a raucous celebratory parade in honor of the World Series champion Giants, the second such parade in the last three years. Hundreds of thousands were on hand to participate in the reverie, according to the AP.

Local acolyte Tony Bennett regaled the thronging crowd with the classic, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” Giants legends Juan Marichal and Willie McCovey were on hand, as well as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.

Star closer Sergio Romo, wearing a t-shirt that read "I just look illegal", thrilled the crowd with his antics. "I loved it when the started acting goofy," said Janet Clark. "That's exactly who the Giants are." Many school-aged kids double-celebrated, as local schools were closed for the day.

Many fans were carrying brooms in honor of the four-game World Series sweep of the Detroit Tigers. In fact, the city's mayor, Ed Lee, gave a "Broom to the City" to Giants' president Larry Baer along with the Key to the City.
