Iowa cornerback Micah Hyde arrested for public intoxication

It wasn’t a good weekend for the Iowa Hawkeyes, as they had a trio of players get into trouble with the law.

Iowa cornerback Micah Hyde was arrested early Saturday in Iowa City for public intoxication and interference with official acts. The defensive back was reported to be one of 15 people fighting with the staff of the Old Capitol Brew Works at closing time on Saturday. Hyde reportedly attempted to flee from the police after they arrived on the scene, but was apprehended two blocks away from the bar.

Hyde is a senior captain of the Hawkeyes, and has been a regular starter since his sophomore season. He also saw action in 13 games as a freshman.

The Hawkeye captain wasn't the only Iowa player to get in trouble with the law over the weekend. Sophomore tight end Ray Hamilton was ticketed for being underage in an Iowa bar on Saturday, and offensive lineman Drew Clark was arrested on Friday for public intoxication.

With the trio of players getting in trouble with the law, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz issued the following statement to the media (via The Gazette):

“I was disappointed to learn of the events involving three team members, as all three of these student-athletes have been good citizens during their time in our program. We will follow protocol set by the UI student-athlete Code of Conduct, as well as taking additional measures within the program.”

Iowa did not have a game on Saturday. The Hawkeyes will next be in action on Oct. 13, when they head to East Lansing to take on Michigan State.
