UCLA vs. Cal 2012 final score: Bears blast through Bruins’ defense, 43-17

No. 25 UCLA looked like easy favorites in their match-up against the 1-4 Cal Bears. Nobody told Cal that information and they went on to trounce the Bruins 43-17.

Going into Saturday's game, the Cal Bears had a 1-4 record, the exact opposite record of its opponent, the No. 25 UCLA Bruins. You couldn't tell from the scoreboard.

The Bruins were up 7-3 on Cal after the first quarter. This would be the only time UCLA had a lead in the game. Cal kept UCLA out of the end zone after the Bruins first touchdown until the middle of the third quarter. While successfully holding off the Bruins offense, Cal scored 23 unanswered points.

UCLA’s freshman quarterback Brent Hundley had a night he’d soon like to forget. Hundley was intercepted four times and sacked five times. When not throwing for 253 yards, he carried the ball 14 times for a total of 7 yards.

The only person that struggled tonight on Cal was the kicker, Vincenzo D'Amato. He missed two extra points and one field goal. Aside from the kicker though, Cal was stellar. C.J. Anderson lead the team in rushing with 21 carries for 152 yards and one touchdown. Leading the receivers was Richard Rogers with seven catches for 129 yards. The Bears scored a four of their six touchdowns in the air, with Keenan Allen contributing two TDs.

Box Score Hero: It was a phenomenal night for Cal quarterback Zach Maynard. He went 25-for-30 for 295 yards and four touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: UCLA can kiss that No. 25 ranking good-bye. Cal will remain unranked.

But Did They Cover? Not even close. UCLA was favored going into the game by one point.
