Outfielder Nyjer Morgan has decided to become a free agent after being sent outright by the Milwaukee Brewers to Triple-A, according to Tom Haudricort of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Morgan was one of the mainstays of the 2011 Brewers who went on to win the National League Central, after hitting .304 with four home runs, 37 RBI and 13 stolen bags in 119 games.

He wasn't able to replicate that success the following season, batting .239 in 122 games and 322 plate appearances. He lost the starting spot at center field to Carlos Gomez. The 32-year-old outfielder was relegated to the bench and the writing was on the wall, diminishing his chances of a return with Milwaukee.

Morgan made $2.35 million last season and was eligible for salary arbitration for the second time. With Morgan producing such unimpressive numbers, the Brewers are ready to settle with Gomez in center field, with rookie Logan Schafer as backup.
