K-Rod charged with 1 count of domestic abuse

Brewers reliever faces up to six months in jail if found guilty.

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

Free agent reliever Francisco Rodriguez faces up to nine months in prison after being charged with one count of domestic abuse in the aftermath of an alleged incident with his fiancée in September, while he was a member of the Brewers.

MLB.com reports that Rodriguez, 30, could spend jail time and pay $10,000 in fines if he is found guilty of the misdemeanor charge.

Waukesha County sheriff’s deputies arrested Rodriguez Sept. 18, according to local TV station WTMJ. The police report says Rodriguez assaulted his fiancée.

This is not the first such issue for the Venezuela-born reliever. He was arrested in 2010 at Citi Field after beating his father-in-law when he played with the New York Mets. He pleaded guilty to lesser charges and underwent anger management classes.

He was the primary setup man for the Brewers after joining the team in 2011. He had a 4.38 ERA with 72 strikeouts and three saves in 72 innings for Milwaukee last year.
