In these days of pay-per-view, HBO Fight Nights and 20,000-person-plus spectacles at the Mandalay Bay, it’s easy to forget that “the sweet science” of boxing has long ties to academia and high society. The Los Angeles Athletic Club has not forgotten, as they are hosting the Los Angeles Collegiate Boxing Invitational on Friday night.
USC vs. UCLA fight headlines Los Angeles Collegiate Boxing Invitational
The Los Angeles Athletic Club is hosting a collegiate boxing invitational on Friday. The main event will pit UCLA against USC.

The event will feature bouts sanctioned by the NCBA and will be headlined by a fight between USC and UCLA, as 145-pounders Jeff Sacha and Ian Cruz face off in representation of their respective schools. The evening is a semi-formal event, black tie optional. The tickets start at $75, but if you appreciate the finer things in life, you’ll probably want to spring for the VIP package, which includes balcony seating and a rooftop afterparty.
If that’s not enough for you, dig this info:
All tickets will include lavish hors d’oeuvres, pre fight buffet and post fight desserts. Cigars will be available throughout the night to enjoy the breathtaking views of the club’s outdoor rooftop.
Free hors d’oeuvres, of course, means scrounging media members. Which is just another way of letting you know that I’ll be there as SB Nation’s representative. Expect a full report next week.
