The Los Angeles Dodgers are prepared to begin negotiations with Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin, and his agent, Scott Boras. Los Angeles acquired the rights to Hyun-jin by placing a winning bid of $25.737 million via the posting system. If the sides fail to agree on a contract by Dec. 10 -- 30 days after the Dodgers' bid was accepted -- Hyun-jin will return to his Korean Baseball Organization team, the Hanwha Eagles.

The 6-2, 215-pound left-hander posted just nine wins for the Eagles in 2012, but he kept his ERA below 3.00. He throws a low-90s fastball, curveball, slider and changeup. He has pitched on an international level before. In 2008, he helped pitch South Korea to an Olympic gold medal in baseball and was the winning pitcher in the deciding match. The 25-year-old also made five appearances for South Korea during the 2009 World Baseball Classic. South Korea finished the tournament in second place.
