Blue Jays reportedly still looking for starting pitching

Even after acquiring Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle from the Miami Marlins earlier this week, the Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to add to their starting pitching depth.

Abelimages

The Toronto Blue Jays are not finished tinkering with their rotation, according to Ken Rosenthal. The team prefers to enter the 2013 season with more than five able-bodied and competent starting pitchers. After the way the 2012 season went for the Jays' rotation, one can hardly blame them.

The Blue Jays had 12 different pitchers start games for them, mostly due to injuries and ineffectiveness. The rotation now looks fairly formidable, with Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle joining Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow and J.A. Happ. But with the way everything fell apart for them last season, it could be wise to add another arm.

It was a bad year to be a pitcher for the Blue Jays, as Happ, Morrow, Kyle Drabek, Drew Hutchison, Robert Coello, Luis Perez, Henderson Alvarez, Jason Frasor and Sergio Santos all landed on the disabled list for various reasons and lengths of time. Of course, the newly-acquired Johnson is no stranger to the DL himself, but Buehrle has pitched more than 200 innings in 12 straight seasons.
