The San Diego State Aztecs defeated the Missouri State Bears 60-44 in the Mountain West/MVC Challenge.


The Aztecs were led by guard Jamaal Franklin, who captured a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. San Diego State guard Xavier Thames contributed 11 points and five assists, forward J.J. O’Brien grabbed eight rebounds to go with six points, and guard James Rahon added 10 points and four rebounds.
While San Diego State was held to 60 points, Missouri State only managed 44. The Aztecs held the Bears to 28.1% shooting from the field and only 17.4% from behind the three-point line. San Diego State out-rebounded Missouri State 43 to 32 and made more free throws (18) than the Bears attempted (16).
Guard Anthony Downing was the high-scorer for the Bears, finishing with 16 points. He was the only Missouri State player to reach double-digits.
The Aztecs were able to recover from their loss to the Syracuse Orange in their regular season opener. San Diego State’s next matchup is against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Wednesday, while Missouri State takes on the Jacksonville Dolphins on Monday night.
