Daly and Fehr will attempt to find common ground on many of the issues separating the league and union. However, the two will be working toward setting future discussions. No major progress is expected this weekend.
The NHL and NHLPA are likely feeling pressure to get a deal done, as the league canceled this season's Winter Classic on Friday. The annual marquee event was scheduled to take place between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Jan. 1. With no CBA in place, however, the league said it is not in a position to do everything necessary to prepare for such a major event.
The NHL lockout began on Sept. 15 and has so far resulted in the cancelation of 326 regular-season games.
