Angels’ trade of Dan Haren to Cubs off for now, according to multiple sources
Almost as soon as Angels starter Dan Haren was figuratively put on a plane to Chicago for Carlos Marmol, reports began to surface saying the deal was far from a sure thing. Late Friday, the deal fell apart.

A report by Yancen Pujols in the Dominican Republic started the frenzy, which has been cooled off. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Marmol agreed at first with the transaction (his input was necessary since the pitcher has a limited no-trade clause in his current deal). That might be the reason why he spoke with Dominican media assuming the deal was done.
However, Rosenthal says the Cubs pulled the deal off the table, which put a death sentence to any intentions of a swap. The clock on Haren is still ticking, since Anaheim has until midnight ET to trade him. If that doesn’t happen, they must decide on a $15.5-million option with the hurler.
